Salt Lake Swarm

We have a newcomer today! Reece Cradock debuts on the Icethetics Concepts Showcase with an idea for the NHL’s new Utah club. He writes:

I chose to go with the Swarm moniker as Utah is known as the ‘Beehive State’ because of “perseverance and industry”—two core components that any sports team should be built upon. Furthermore, a swarm is a collective that work together to overpower their opposition, especially in defence of their hive, a very illustrative description of how a hockey team may play especially at home.
For the jersey design I incorporated the negative space of the Ute mountains from the state flag as the central pattern of the shirt housing the crest on the front and player names and numbers on the back. Using the colour combination of a light blue and gold for the home scheme to represent Salt Lake City in the blue (as found on their city flag) and the gold to continue the bee motif, as well it not being a combination found outside of St. Louis throwback jerseys. The road jersey is white and light blue again, after the city flag of Salt Lake City and to represent the famous slat flats of Utah.
The crest is an anthropomorphic hockey stick-wielding bee flying out of its hive to its defence as the head of the swarm. Upon its stick is tape in the colours of the Utah stage flag styled to look like an “S” for Salt Lake.
